On a day like today, think about how people like Dennoriss Richardson, Jordan Neely, Briana Taylor and Sonya Massey won't ever get to say Merry Christmas to their loved ones.
Think about the people who are in prison like Mumia Abu Jamal and Leonard Peltier who are locked away from their families in cold cells. Think about Assata Shakur, being in exile in Cuba with no real possibility of return to her daughter or loved ones.
Think about Aaron Bushnell who should be here but because he didn't want to be complicit in a genocide, he made the ultimate sacrifice to bring attention to it. Think about the people suffering in Haiti who are still under the thumb of US/Western imperialism and living in debased conditions due to destabilization. Think about the people in Gaza and Palestine, who are sick, hungry, cold and mourning their lost loved ones even though we in the West are celebrating the birth of one of their own.
Think about the unhoused neighbors who are only acknowledged this time every year but then are invisible the other 364 days and only have a few waking hours to feel like they matter before they go into obscurity once again.
Think about the people in the hospital who don't have anyone visiting them to say hello and to lift their spirits as they try to heal. Think about the loners and disabled people who are shut in and shut out who wish to be with others but can't.
Think about the people who are at work right now who want to be home, wishing they can spend time with their loved ones but because of a system that needs profit, they have to be present serving customers instead of embracing their kinfolk.
There are so many to think about and consider. Continue to advocate and fight for the people forgotten and overlooked. As well, take time to be grateful for what you do have and do what you can to share with others. And remember: There's ALWAYS a good time to build community and do Mutual Aid!
Merry Christmas
